Useful Dog Training Tips

Keeping Your Dog Busy

Keeping Your Dog Busy

Keeping Your Dog Busy

Your dog's mind needs to be exercised as well as the body! Buy or make food puzzles or play "find it" games with your pet. Dogs love to forage so you can use that passion to help your pup use his senses to enrich his day.

BUSY MATS

Keeping Your Dog Busy

Keeping Your Dog Busy

These mats help to keep your dog engaged and are a great reward when your dog is training. You take 2 minutes to load the mat with great treats and ask your dog for some behaviors like sit, down, wait or stay. When the training is done, place the mat on the floor and watch how happy she is to find all the goodies.

Children and Dogs

Have a topic you want discussed?

Nothing is sweeter than seeing your child's expression while meeting their first puppy. The excitement is so contagious. Please explain to your child the rules needed to keep them and the puppy safe. Never leave your children unsupervised around the family dog. If this is your first dog, please hire a trainer to explain to your family (children too!) in a fun, interactive way, how to keep everyone healthy and safe.

My puppy is chewing everything!

Pups use their mouths to explore their environment. Chewing accomplishes a number of things for puppies and dogs. For puppies, it helps to relieve pain from incoming adult teeth, provides them with stimulation or can relieve boredom and anxiety. So what can you do if your pup is chewing inappropriate items. First thing is to make sure to puppy proof your house. Put away valuable objects! Second tip is to provide plenty of chew toys and bones appropriate for your pup. Rotate them out every couple of days so he doesn't get bored. Third suggestion is to identify times of day when your pup is most likely to chew and provide a food puzzle (busy mat, see above) filled with part of her food rations to keep your pup busy. Give Diamonds in the Ruff a call to set up an appointment to learn more ways to keep your pup happy and your valuables safe.
